David Hunter Earns Award for His Hard Work & Commitment to FWE

FWE's Extra Mile Award - David Hunter
David Hunter proudly holds up his Extra Mile Award!

Please join us in congratulating our newest Extra Mile Award recipient, David Hunter!

David Hunter deserves recognition for setting the example by his positive attitude. This is especially critical when he’s training new hires. As a trainer he also demonstrates patience and supports and encourages people while they’re learning.

When asked about nominating David, Arturo Perez states “David is very hands-on – whatever I ask him to do he rolls up his sleeves and dives in head first. He is humble and willing to learn from anyone in his assigned department.”

David is also observant and detail-oriented and he does what we’ve ask him to do – study the processes and come back with solid ideas for improving processes.

David definitely gives an “extra mile” effort! Keep up the great work David!

Mark Grider Earns Award for His Hard Work & Commitment to FWE

FWE's Extra Mile Award Winner: Mark GriderPlease help us congratulate our newest recipient of the Extra Mile Award, Mark Grider.

Mark deserves the Extra Mile Award because he keeps a positive attitude toward his work.  Whatever he is asked to do; he’s always eager and willing to do it.  Even if it means moving to 2nd shift to cover for someone’s vacation or absence, he does it without complaining.

If Mark makes a mistake on something, he readily admits it rather than trying to cover it up.  He uses it as a learning opportunity and tries not to make the same mistake twice.

Mark shares his knowledge freely and has trained numerous new hires.  He was also a key part of developing one of our first training checklists for the Laser Unloader position.

Thank you for your contribution to the FWE team, Mark and keep up the good work!

CLYMATE IQ – Get More Precision Out of Your Cooking

SNA ANC is less than a week away! This Product Highlight is one of FWE’s most popular series. CLYMATE IQ!

One of many great achievements FWE has designed over the years, the CLYMATE IQ series gives you complete control over heat and humidity. How do we do this?

With intelligent heat and moisture sensors throughout the unit. CLYMATE IQ can tell if the ambient moisture or heat has risen or fallen and adjusts to hold the user-defined settings.

FWE knows that consistency is key. Air is circulated throughout the unit, meaning no hot or cold spots making your food stay kitchen fresh.

Warm up times as quick as 30 minutes and recovery times as fast as 3 minutes; it is no wonder the CLYMATE IQ series has become a customer favorite!

If you are at the SNA ANC show stop by booth 1490, to see what you have been missing. We will have the PHTT-12 model with Dutch Glass Doors on display, one of the many optional accessories available for CLYMATE IQ!

Serve Your Customers in the Easiest Way Possible!

Today we have a cabinet series built for transport. Our Dry Serving Wells are perfect for school applications!

On the top of the model are wells to serve heated fresh food, while inside are heated holding compartments to allow for quick refills to keep those hungry students or fans happy. The heated dry well comes standard with an easy to use magnetic workflow handle giving it a sleek look while still being functional.

One of the great features of nearly any FWE model is the ability to mix and match a nearly limitless list of optional accessories to make your unit completely unique, take for example the sneeze guard that protects your food from contamination and the tray slide shelf that allows a place to rest trays as it moves through your operation.

Here is our favorite feature: the well and the cabinet temperatures are totally independent of each other. Each cavity has its own control dial allowing for precise temperatures for your food.

These dry wells can accommodate 12”x20” pans, 18”x13” trays or even GN 1/1s! Talk about versatility!

At the upcoming SNA ANC from July 14th – 16th we will have one of our Well units on display come on down to booth 1490 and take a look and see for yourself why FWE is the best in foodservice equipment design.

Combine Two FWE Heat Systems In One Awesome Cabinet

We are in July! That means the School Nutrition Association’s Annual Nation Conference is just around the corner. Today we thought we would talk about a favorite new product of ours.

This piece of equipment takes not one but two of our heat systems and combines them to enhance your food quality. This is, of course, the Moisture-Temp Retherm Oven.

What makes this product so special? Well, not only can you reconstitute food that had been previously refrigerated or slacked. You can also use the moisture and temperature controls to not only reheat but to cook your product!

Made with the same high-quality stainless steel FWE is known for, the RH-18-MT even sports removable tray slides and can support pans full of heavy food items.

This model has an easy to use touch screen control that allows you to pre-set a number of settings from time, temperature, even humidity level eliminating that need for someone to keep an eye on it.

Are you afraid of your product getting too moist? We thought ahead on that one and installed an automatic venting system that releases excess moisture without you having to do anything.

Same goes for the Water Pan as the RH-18-MT auto fill system takes the worry and the work off your shoulders.

The Moisture-Temp Retherm will be at the show, be sure to stop by Booth #1490 and ask about the 3 Phase Electrical Optional Accessory!

FWE Offers the Best Way to Hold Pizza

The School Nutrition Association’s Annual Nation Conference is coming up we at FWE are going to give you the rundown on what to expect! Don’t forget to find us at booth #1490!

FWE remains on the cutting edge of Foodservice design and nowhere is that more evident than in our Humidified Pizza Holding Cabinets. We know that pizza is one of the kid’s favorites but that we also know that pizza is best kept warm.

FWE’s pizza heated holding cabinets buys time, giving operators tremendous flexibility in food production strategies. Our Cabinets hold open or boxed pizzas up to 18 inches and two boxes deep!

When you are trying to keep pizza warm, you run the risk of drying it out, not with FWE’s Pizza Holding Cabinet. With our innovative Humi-Temp system, we precondition the cabinet environment with circulating moist air. The gentle air movement ensures hot and fresh pizza for hours.

There are a plethora of optional accessories to boot! On the model going to the show, you will see a beautiful graphic wrap (imagine your logo there!) A full bumper to make sure that the cabinet is protected during transport. And a full Lexan door, that allows you to keep an eye on that delicious pizza.

This is just one of the pieces coming to the SNA ANC show this year. Be out on the lookout for more deep dives on the other amazing products FWE will be bringing!

FWE’s Made In USA for FSCI’s Magazine

Recently, FWE was featured in FSCI’s Magazine under the title, “Thriving in the US”. The article features one of our favorite photos of an employee welding two parts together. The article itself is broken down into three parts.

The opening of the article talks about FWE as a company, our history, our tradition as a provider of custom solutions. Did you know that when FWE started way back in the 1950s that all the material was cut by hand? That is a far cry from the high precision laser we use today. But FWE takes great care to have the same level attention to every detail now as we did back then.

From here the article goes into how FWE is a global manufacturer with every model being made in the USA. With the introduction to automation processes, FWE was able to produce equipment under the better, faster, cheaper mantra. FWE, when we can, sources all building materials locally, which allows us to give back to the communities we serve in Nashville and Chicago.

Rounding out the article, FER discusses how FWE is learning and growing into the future. FWE management serves as mentors to the next generation of entrepreneurs. We work closely with high schools and local colleges for our paid internship program, fostering career growth with many interns staying with FWE for decades. We do all of this because we are proud to be designed, and built in America!

FWE Celebrates Earth Day 2019

Earth. What more is there to say about it that hasn’t already been said? She has been the only home we have ever known, in the wide unknown of the universe. It is a single blue light in adrift in an endless sea of stars.

We are the caretakers of this world and its sustainability falls on each of us. Food Warming Equipment Company understands the challenges facing our home and takes part in several initiatives to do our part in protecting this planet.

VIRTUALIZATION OF THE DATA CENTER

One of the lesser known benefits is our reduction in IT Server space. We took several physical servers and consolidated them onto a Virtual Machine. This allowed us to reduce our server space by 3 times! Even better, our employees can access the server remotely by using a virtual desktop, reducing the amount of waste at the end of a piece of hardware’s life cycle.

PACKAGING

FWE uses recyclable corrugated board. We also work with Vendors to reduce the amount of packaging required to get products delivered safely. Over the years, FWE has experimented with the reduction of our packing materials to safeguard the environment while assuring product to market requirements. In addition to corrugated board, FWE cycles containers, boxes, paper goods, wood, shipping skids, and metal.

TREE PLANTING

FWE has given or planted over 350 trees through its effort of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and has reduced the company’s overall impact on the environment through the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions outside the four walls of the factory.

REDUCE

As most manufacturing facilities know, paperwork is an essential requirement to keep production organized and timely. Leading edge factory techniques have given birth to an in-house hyper “E-manufacturing environment” at FWE we have reduced paperwork and drawings in the factory by 99%. While no organization is completely paperless, FWE has taken considerable effort in reducing its paper needs to only a fraction of what would have otherwise been used in a traditional manufacturing facility.

Visit our Community and Sustainability page, here, to learn more about how FWE gives back the planet that has given us so much.

Sharing Some of our Employee’s Favorite Holiday Treats

We are gearing up for our annual FWE Christmas party, which means many of us are pulling out our secret family recipes to treat our friends and family this Holiday season. Today we are treating our readers with something that will satisfy any sweet tooth, Gigi’s Peanut Butter fudge! One of our employees here at FWE likes to make his coworkers this delicious fudge, a recipe that was passed down to him from his mother, Gigi, every year during the holidays. He is able to make large batches of this delicious, wintry treat using one of our FWE Cold Temp Refrigerators.

How do you make it? Don’t worry, we have all the details.

First you need to gather all your ingredients:

  • 6 Cups of Sugar
  • 3 Sticks of Butter
  • 10 oz of Evaporated Milk
  • 1 ½ Cups of Creamy Peanut Butter (Gigi uses JIF)
  • 13 oz of Marshmallow Cream
  • 1 Tbsp of Vanilla Extract
  • Wax Paper
  • 1 Baking pan 15” x 10” x 1”
  • 1 Heavy Duty Aluminum Kettle (A kettle not strong enough will scorch the fudge)
  • 1 Long Spoon (Preferably metal with a wooden handle)

Prepare the baking pan by lining it with wax paper, as the fudge cannot set for long before it starts to harden.

Mix the sugar, butter and evaporated milk in the kettle over medium heat until it comes to a rolling boil. Once it starts bubbling well, continue mixing for 5 more minutes, scraping the sides and bottom of the kettle with each pass so that it does not scorch the fudge. If you notice some light scorching, turn the heat down.

Once the 5 minutes are up, turn off the heat and add the peanut butter, mixing it well in the kettle. After that, you will need to add in the marshmallow cream and, you guessed it, stir more.  Now it is time to add in the final ingredient, one tablespoon of vanilla extract, mixing well.

Pour the entire contents of the kettle into the baking pan – it should fill the entire pan – then let it cool down. We recommend putting it in a FWE Cold Temp Refrigerator for about 10 – 15 minutes. Once cooled you can pull out the fudge, tip the pan over onto a clean cutting board, and peel off the wax paper. Then cut into 1 x 1 inch portions.

Viola! You have yourself one of the sweetest Holiday treats straight from Gigi’s Kitchen. Gigi recommends that you have a nice cold glass of milk with the fudge.

FWE Donates Over 75 Units of Blood!

On Wednesday, November 7th FWE hosted our very own Blood Drive with the help of the American Red Cross staff in Portland, TN. We had 17 employees participate in the blood drive yesterday, in 2018 alone we have donated 76 units of blood. we’re so proud of everyone who gives to this great cause.

The blood that has been donated will be used during blood transfusions that are given to patients in a variety of circumstances such as serious injuries, surgeries, childbirth, anemia, blood disorders, cancer treatments to just name a few. The American Red Cross ensures that your donated blood “journeys through many steps and tests that ensure [their] blood supply is as safe as possible and helps as many people as possible”.

Your willingness to donate blood helps save people’s lives every day, lives like our teammate, Brandon Justice. Brandon shared his survival story with us regarding a car accident that resulted in life-threatening injuries back in October 2017.

“Life Flight transported me to Vanderbilt and they had to give me two units of blood during the flight. At Vanderbilt, they did emergency reconstructive on my leg and I had to have another seven units of blood during my operation. While I was in the hospital recovering, I required teo more units of blood. Thanks to volunteer blood donors, there were 11 units of blood available when I needed it.”

Brandon not only gave blood during FWE’s drive yesterday but encouraged many of his fellow coworkers to donate, too. Helping those who need it is a big part of the culture here at FWE, we proudly encourage our team to give back when they can. If you are looking to find a blood drive near you, go to the American Red Cross page and type in your zip code where the “Find a Blood Drive” is located in the top right-hand corner. You can also apply to host your own blood drive, just like we did at FWE.
